Your Audience Needs You Every Day
The Christian writer loves to write, but have you ever wondered if your audience needs you every day through consistent emails? Does that sound like too much writing? Hear me out. I’ll explain how to connect with your audience and why consistent emails drive results. With results that lead to future sales of your Christian book without being “salesy”.
A new strategy sparked for this Christian author on a busy Monday. With a forty-five-minute break in my schedule, I grabbed my keys and headed downtown to buy a gift for my friend I’d fly to see the next day. The made-in-Michigan items will be perfect for my transplanted Tennessean friend! I thought.
But as I arrived at the store, I saw the “Closed” sign. No! It was not only closed today, but also on Tuesday. I had a need, but there would be no special Michigan memento to purchase that day. Retail stores need a day off, or maybe even two. But then, I muttered, “Your customer needs you today.”
Then it hit me—how does my audience feel when they don’t hear from me consistently? If I only show up when it is convenient for me, am I serving them? How can I better connect with the audience that God gives me?
At that moment, I decided to commit to being “open for business” every day in a new way, with my audience at the forefront of this decision. I implemented a new practice in my business: consistent emails to connect with my audience daily.
This shift transformed my business. Here’s what I’ve learned: your audience needs you every day. Let me explain why consistent emails drive results and how this strategy can help you nurture your customers, readers, or clients effectively. It’s an effective strategy for book marketing.
The Importance of Consistent Emails
Does your email audience know you? Like you? Trust you? You’ve probably heard the term KLT, which means know, like, and trust. How will your audience know, like, and trust you if they never hear from you?
Consistent emails are vital to increasing the KLT factor and connecting with your audience. A regular rhythm of communication fosters virtual friendship and will strengthen your relationship with your future readers and customers.
This friendship doesn’t grow overnight. It requires regular touchpoints, conversations, and time to build the KLT factor. Sending consistent emails reminds your audience that you’re here to support and serve them.
Most importantly, consistent emails keep you top-of-mind. For example, my audience of Christian women who care about their health is undoubtedly on many health coach email lists. How often do they hear from all those other health coaches? Connect to the audience, and they won’t have to wonder if you’ll show up; you are reliable. This is how long-term trust is built. People are more likely to buy from or engage with someone they trust.
Connect to your audience in this manner to build rapport, credibility, and anticipation while consistently sending stories with valuable, helpful, and timely information. Your audience will look forward to your emails because they know there’s always something valuable inside.
Why Consistent Emails Boost Engagement?
Consistency isn’t just about being present—it’s about actively engaging with your audience. Regular emails keep you connected to your readers, leading to engagement. If your emails land frequently in their inbox, they will likely interact with your content.
Statistics back this up. Studies show that consistent emails drive results in several areas, such as higher open rates, better engagement, and increased conversions.
Why does this work? Because daily or frequent emails create opportunities for engagement. Your audience looks forward to your insights, advice, or offers. They know they’ll hear from you regularly, so they stay connected and involved in your community. Be sure to invite them to reply by asking them questions so you can also get to know them.
How to Serve Your Audience Every Day Through Consistent Emails
You may wonder, “How do I show up daily without overwhelming my audience or running out of content?” The answer lies in creating a balance between sharing stories, providing value, and sharing your direct offers (like the opportunity to purchase my new Christian book).
Consistent emails don’t need to be long. Sometimes, a short email with a meaningful tip, inspiring story, or behind-the-scenes insight is all your audience needs. Brief, focused emails can be more impactful than long ones because they’re easy to read and digest.
Here are a few ideas for consistent email content to connect:
- Personal stories: Create authentic connections through relatable stories.
- Practical tips: Provide a quick tip your audience can implement right away.
- Inspiration and encouragement: Send motivational quotes, Scripture memes, or words of wisdom that uplift and inspire.
- Behind-the-scenes updates: Share a peek into your life. Your writing, your business. They love this!
My rule of thumb for a month of emails is to send 70% stories, 20% value, and 10% direct sales offers. Avoid overwhelming your audience with sales messages. For other content ideas for your emails, read Tools to Help You Sell and Market Your Book.
What Happens When You Don’t Show Up Consistently?
What happens when you skip a few days or, worse, weeks? Inconsistent communication can be damaging. Your audience may forget about you, and when you finally show up again, they may not be as excited to hear from you.
Worse yet, inconsistent emails can cause your audience to lose trust in you. If they only hear from you when you have something to sell, they may feel like they’re being treated as a transaction rather than a valued community member. Consistency is critical—it builds a relationship centered on service, not sales, and it’s your audience’s trust that makes this relationship possible.
If you’ve fallen off the radar with your audience, don’t panic. You can re-engage them with a “Remember Me?” email sequence. This is a set of emails where you reintroduce yourself, share some valuable content, and remind your readers why they subscribed to hear from you in the first place.
Create a Sustainable Daily Email Strategy Habit
If you’re with me so far, I have strategies and habits to build this new practice efficiently for you:
- Batch writing: Block two hours weekly to write seven weekly emails.
- Scheduling tools: Learn how to use your email service provider’s scheduling feature to avoid missing a day.
- Plan: Brainstorm themes or topics for each day, week, or month. For example, in July, I used the theme Summer Sprint with a key verse and tied each email to the theme for the month.
These strategies make sending consistent emails easier and ensure you can maintain this habit long-term.
